Crocheted Water Balloons
Reusable and washable water balloons for fun that lasts all summer long! Make these super soakers from absorbent chenille yarn. This balloon-shaped project is quick and easy to make. Bet you cannot stop making them!
Abbreviations:
Ch = Chain
HDC = Half Double Crochet
sl st = Slip Stitch
st = Stitch
HDC2tog = Half Double Crochet 2 together
Notes:
Only make with chenille yarns. Other yarns will not absorb water well. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each row.
- Chenille yarn - 1 skein will make lots of balloons
- Prym Ergonomics® Crochet Hook - US L (8mm)
- Large Eye Plastic Sewing Needle
- Stitch Marker
- Scissors
Row 1: Ch 2. In first chain, 7 HDC (7). Sl st first and last stitch together.
Row 2: Ch 1. 2 HDC in each st (14). Sl st first and last stitch together.
Row 3 -5: Ch 1. HDC in each st (14). Sl st first and last stitch together.
Row 6: Ch 1. HDC2tog in each st (7). Sl st first and last stitch together.
Row 7: Ch 1. HDC in each st (7). Sl st first and last stitch together. Cut yarn and pull end through last stitch. Secure yarn end by weaving through a few stitches. Tuck yarn into balloon shape.
1: Cut a 10” piece of yarn and weave through stitches of row 6.
2: Pull tight and tie to form “knot” on balloon.
3: Weave ends into balloon.
Time for some water fun! Clean up is easy - just throw in the washer and dryer to clean and get ready for the next water battle!
