This puffer dog coat project combines warmth, comfort, and practicality in one satisfying sew. With quilted layers and a snug fit, this DIY coat helps keep your pup comfortable on chilly days while still allowing room to move and play. Choose your favorite fabrics and create a winter essential your dog will reach for every time the temperature drops.

Dog Puffer Coat Instructions

Step 1: Prep the pattern

  • Follow the pattern instructions for jacket construction. (TIP: To prevent scorching, use a Pressing Sheet when pressing the outside fabric if it has any polyester content.)

Step 2: Top stitch

  • Before adding the snaps, top stitch along the jacket edges to give it a finished look.

Step 3: Attach snaps

  • Attach snaps using the VARIO Creative Tool.

Step 4: Mark

  • Mark where the Anorak snaps will be placed on either side of the coat.

Step 5: Punch the holes

  • Punch the holes using the corresponding size tools in the Vario Creative Tool for the 12mm Anorak snaps by positioning the fabric and pressing down the handle. Reference the instructions that come with the anorak snap tool set.

Step 6: Switch the tool set

  • Switch the tool set to the Anorak Snap set for 12mm snaps in the Vario Creative Tool. Position the fabric and the anorak snap accessories and press down the handle.

Step 7: Test your snaps

  • Test snaps and then your coat is ready to warm up your pup!
