Description
Use the Dritz 1/2\" Polyester Horsehair to add body to your floor-length skirts, gowns and other dresses without adding weight to the hem. This polyester horsehair braid can stiffen and define straight or curved hems. Made of 100% polyester, this horsehair braid is washable and dry cleanable.

Usage & Care

Usage Instructions:

STRAIGHT HEMS:

  1. Mark hemline; trim hem allowance to 1/4 inch.
  2. On right side of garment, place edge of braid even with fabric edge; machine stitch 1/8 inch from fabric edge.
  3. On wrong side of garment, turn braid and hem up along stitching line.
  4. Fold up once more along edge of braid to enclose edge.
  5. Using low heat, press and pin in place.
  6. To secure hem, stitch along fabric and fold on wrong side of garment or hand stitch.
  7. Press hem carefully.

CURVE HEMS:

  1. Ease stitch one edge of braid with long machine stitch.
  2. Attach braid as directed above in steps 1 and 2. Position unstitched edge of braid along fabric edge.
  3. On wrong side of garment, turn braid and hem up along stitching line. Fold up once more along edge of braid to enclose edge.
  4. Baste close to fold; pull ease thread to draw-up fullness.
  5. Using low heat, press and pin in place.
  6. Hand stitch top edge of braid to garment.
  7. Carefully remove basting stitches.

TIP: To finish cut ends of braid, overlap ends 1/2 inch and position a 1-1/2 inch piece of ribbon under joint before first stitching. Turn ribbon with hem and braid and wrap around braid ends before securing hem. Be sure ribbon piece is wide enough to prevent ends from working out.
