Fabric & Notion Requirements
- ¼ yard of various Quilting Fabrics
- ¾ yd Medium Weight Fusible Stabilizer
- 3 ½ yards 1” Ribbon
- 1 package Double Fold Bias Tape
- 2 ¾ yds Medium Blue Large Floral Quilting Fabric for backing
- 3/4" Plastic Rings, White, 24 pc
- 1/2" Plastic Rings, Clear, 24 pc
- Polyfill
- Coordinating Thread
- Heart Pattern
Heart Garland Instructions
Step 1: Cut Fabric
Cut fabric into a 2” x 36” strip. Repeat for all fabrics.
Sew short ends of each strip together, creating a loop. Press in half, long sides together.
Sew two rows of basting stitches along raw edge of ruffle strips. Set aside.
Rough cut fabric to fit front and back heart shape.
Apply stabilizer to wrong side of fabric cut.
Pin heart pattern to fabric and cut out one front and one back heart shape. Repeat for all fabrics.
Step 2: Gather strips
Gather ruffle strips and pin to right sides of heart fronts making sure gathers are evenly dispersed.
Step 3: Baste
- Baste ruffles to heart fronts.
Step 4: Layer
- Layer corresponding heart backs on top with RST. Pin and stitch together, leaving an opening for turning.
Step 5: Clip the fabric
- Clip excess fabric at valley area of each heart.
Step 6: Shape your heart
- Turn hearts right sides out and use a Point Turner to push seams out and shape.
Step 7: Stuff your heart
- Stuff your heart with Polyfill or feathers.
Step 8: Stitch the opening
Stitch opening closed using a ladder stitch.
Step 9: Hand stitch
- Hand stitch two ¾” Plastic Rings to the back of each heart.
Step 10: Cut ribbon
- Cut ribbon into seven 18” lengths.
Step 11: Attach plastic rings
- Thread two ½” Plastic Rings onto each ribbon length. Tie ribbon into bows, making sure one plastic ring is captured in each bow loop.
Step 12: Add Binding
- Sew bias tape together using a top stitch.
Step 13: Thread hearts and bows
- Use the plastic rings to thread hearts and bows onto the bias tape. Disperse to desired spaces and enjoy.
