- Tulle

Instructions:
Step 1: Draw your design on felt using water soluble pen as your stitch guide, cut out pieces.
Step 2: Embroidery guidelines:
- Use 1-2 strands of embroidery floss Use more floss for a thicker line
- Use the backstitch method to create solid lines of stitching
- Use about 18” of embroidery floss at a time
- After threading your needle, always tie an anchor knot on the ends of the thread
- Always start and stop from the backside
- Remember to leave enough thread to secure your stitches on the back
- Work from the background to the foreground
Step 3: Use Liquid Stitch to secure smaller felt pieces in place, allow to dry before embroidering.
Step 4: To add beads, thread a needle with a single strand of thread with an anchor knot on the back. Bring needle through felt, from the backside. While the needle is still in felt, pick up a single bead on your needle, position it against the felt, then complete the stitch by pulling thread all the way through the felt, positioning the needle back down right next to the opposite side of the bead.
Step 4a: Secure the bead by creating a tiny anchoring stitch through the felt surface right beneath the bead.
Smoothly, string 2 to 4 beads at a time, anchor the thread down, and bring the needle back up between the beads to tack them firmly to the felt. Tie a secure knot on the back of the felt close to the fabric surface, bury the tail end of the thread through a few existing stitches or layers, and trim the excess.
Step 5: After embroidery and beading are complete, use small amounts of Fray Check on the anchor knots on the back of the project.
Create Flowers
Step 6: Cut background fabric and tulle into squares. Start with squares, then trim into circles, then into flower shapes. Each piece should be slightly smaller than the one you cut before it. Lay out all your pieces to make sure they are at the sizes you want them to be.
Step 7: Create flower shapes by folding circles into 8ths, then cutting into whatever petal shape you desire.
Step 8: Layer tulle pieces between fabric pieces.
Step 9: Using a loose basting stitch and starting from the back, stitch a small circle near the center of the flower. Pull the thread tight so that the flower cinches. Tie thread tight so that the flower remains cinched.
Step 10: Use hands to flatten flower.
Assemble Barrette:
Step 11: Attach a stiff circle of felt to the back of the flower.
Step 12: Attach Embroidered Halloween Design to front.
Step 13: Attach Dritz Binding Clips to the back felt piece

And you’re done! Congratulations on making the Halloween hair barrettes!
