Supply List

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut your fabric and fusible fleece to size:

  • Outer Fabric: Cut two pieces measuring 14" × 4" and two pieces measuring 14" × 12".
  • Fusible Fleece (for outer fabric): Cut two pieces 14" × 15".
  • Liner Fabric: Cut two pieces 14" × 15".
  • Straps: Cut two pieces 4" × 17".
  • Fusible Fleece for straps: Cut two pieces 2" × 17".

Step 2: Assemble the outer fabric: Sew each 14" × 4" piece to the bottom edge of a 14" × 12" piece. These two assembled pieces will form the front and back of the bag.

Step 3: Iron the fusible fleece onto the wrong side of both outer fabric panels.

Step 4: Sew the outer bag body: Place the two outer panels right sides together and sew around the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.

Step 5: Sew the liner: Place the liner pieces right sides together and sew around the sides and bottom, leaving the top open and a 3–4" opening along one side for turning later.

Step 6: Box the corners: On both the outer bag and liner, cut a 1.5" square from each bottom corner.

Step 7: Shape the base: Pinch each cut-out corner to form a boxed shape, then sew across to close the corners on both the outer bag and liner.

Step 8: Prepare the straps: Iron the fusible fleece centered on the wrong side of each strap piece.

Step 9: Fold and sew the straps: Fold each strap in half lengthwise and press. Open it, fold each long edge toward the center crease, then fold in half again. Clip and sew along both long edges.

Step 10: Attach straps to the outer bag: Turn the outer bag right side out. Measure 3" from each side seam and pin the straps in place. Sew them down with a ⅛" seam allowance to secure.

Step 11: Join outer bag and liner: Keep the outer bag right side out and the liner inside out. Insert the outer bag into the liner so right sides face each other, aligning side seams.

Step 12: Secure straps between layers: Position the straps between the outer and liner layers, centered on the side seams with raw edges aligned. Pin all around the top opening and sew with a ¼" seam allowance.

Step 13: Turn the bag: Pull the bag through the opening left in the liner. Press the top edge for a crisp finish, then sew the liner opening closed and push the liner down into the bag.

Step 14: Topstitch: Topstitch around the entire top edge of the bag, using pins if needed to keep everything aligned.

Step 15: Finished: Your bag is complete and ready to use.

And you’re done! Congratulations on making the Trick or Treat Tote Bag!
