Instructions:
Step 1: Print your bird template and cut out your pieces.
Step 2: Trace your beak template onto your felt and cut it out.
Step 3: Adhere your SF101 to the back of your fabrics. All of them. This is to provide your fabric with some stability.
Step 4: Take your 2 pieces of fabric for your bird and layer them with right sides together. And trace your bird pattern. Draw a little line where your beak would go. Cut approx. ¼ of an inch from your drawn line.
Step 5: Place your beak in place.
Step 6: Sew on the drawn line but leave the tail portion open. the back also adhere your Heat and Bond.
Step 7: Turn your bird right side out. Use the pinking shears to cut along the ‘tail’ of the bird. I used Fray Check along the edge of the tail to keep it from fraying.
Step 8: Use some twine and a needed and go from the inside out to make a hanger for your bird. Cut off the excess.
Step 9: Stuff your bird and use twine to tie off the tail.
Wings:
Step 10: Trace your wings onto your choice of fabric. You need a total of 2 wings per bird.
Step 11: Sew along the drawn line and do not leave an opening.
Step 12: Use your scissor to cut approx. ¼ inch around the wing. Use your snips to cut a line on the back of the wings to flip the wings right-side out. Don’t worry, you won’t see the cut line on your finished bird.
Step 13: After your turn your bird right-side out, you will press with your iron.
Step 14: Use Liquid stitch along the cut line to close the edges together.
Step 15: On the right side of the wings stitch a button onto the wing and use Liquid Stitch to adhere your wing to your bird.
Step 16: Use Thread to sew your black beads into place on your bird.
Step 17: Repeat steps for however many birds you’d like to make.
